Mike Yates

Mike started playing volleyball at a young age after being burned out from baseball. He loved the sport and went from playing at Pondorosa HS, to Sac State where he lettered and had a successful collegiate career. Fortunately, he was able to transfer his skills indoor to a beach career that has made him the best known beach players in Sacramento. Mike still runs a beach training session out of Folsom, and has be able to keep involved both as a coach and player for many years. With the formation of Precision Volleyball Club, Mike was able to establish himself in the area to encourage boys and girls to take their volleyball to the next level. After several years of positive results, Mike was encouraged to have the opportunity to make volleyball in the area bigger and became a partner in the formation of a new club, and great opportunity, GGVB.

Gabe Gardner

Born and raised in San Clemente, CA in a town known for producing players like Karch Kiraly and Bob Yoder, Gabe graduated from San Clemente High in 1995 as valdectorian, and a 4 sport athlete (water polo, basketball, volleyball, swimming). Gabe was named Orange County Register and Los Angeles Times male athlete of the year in 1995, and went on to play volleyball at USC. After a coaching change, Gabe decided to transfer to Stanford University where he graduated with a BA in Human Biology. Gabe's career began to climb when he joined the national team in the summer of 1997 while still at Stanford. By the year 2000, Gabe was an alternate on the Sydney Olympic team, and by 2004 Gabe had made his first Olympics in Athens (4th place finish). Realizing he had a lot more left, Gabe continued to play for now womens head coach Hugh McCutchean the next four years until he arrived in Bejing for the 2008 Olympics. In historic fashion, Gabe and the team won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games. Since 2000, Gabe has played professionally in 10 countries, winning 3 overseas championship, numberous individual awards and accolades. Coaching experience includes numberous high level camps, overseas coaching for juniors in multiple countries, and area lessons and clinics.

Justin Smolich

            Justing started his involvement with volleyball in the spring or 1989 during his Senior Year in high school. Justin played volleyball in Junior college for American River in 1993. While at American river he played a few different positions.  Setter, Outside Hitter, Opposite, and defensive specialist were the positions he played. After playing in junior college Justin played for several men’s teams in the NCVA adult league. Justin has also played doubles beach volleyball since 1990, which I still continue to this day.

2005 High Performance National Championship Head Coach, Matt has coached with USA Volleyball’s High Performance Program for the past 5 years.  Matt’s coaching experience includes; assisting at American River College, Varsity Head Coach at Jesuit, El Camino and Loretto High Schools.  Matt has coached athletes who have gone on to play at the following Universities: Stanford, Colgate, Indiana State, Sonoma State, UC Irvine, American River College, Nevada, Fresno State, Tufts, Virginia Tech, Sacramento City College, CSU Hayward, CSU Monterey, College of Charleston, Pacific, Siskyous, UNC, Redlands, Sierra College, Northeastern, San Diego, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, and Oregon.

16-1 HEAD COACH CJ GROTEWEGH

CJ has coached both girls and guys for several years of club volleyball in the sacramento area. Most recently, CJ was a co-coach of CalSyngery 16's girls club team. CJ has recently studied for the CA Bar exam and intends to become a practicing lawyer in the next year.

Zack Neptune

Zack has several years working with top boys in area through Granite Bay hs volleyball team. Also, he has trained volleyball players physically for well over 3 years in conjunction with The Edge volleyball in Granite Bay. 

Zack Morrow Head Coach GGVB 14U

Zack is 27 years old and from San Jose, CA. He went to high school at Archbbishop Mitty in which he letter in both Football and Volleyball. In which he was apart of the Varsity Volleyball team for 3 years. After High School he attended Fresno State where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology.  During that time he was on the Fresno State Club team which won three league championships as well as a national championship.  He is currently attending Sacramento State to obtain his masters in Sports Management.  While at Sacramento State he wasapart of the club team in 2009.

Jennifer has run the admin for club volleyball for well over 8 years. First starting with GoldCAL girls, she then has run all the admin for PVC for well over 4 years.
